As she trained with her grandfather and became stronger and more skilled in the martial arts, she also learned stealth and intelligence-gathering techniques. Kasumi's sense of justice and good heartedness compelled her to help the poor and innocent whenever she can. All was well in Japan until one day when the ninja clan that Kasumi is part of was attacked by evil ninjas who destroyed their ninjutsu dojo. The grandmaster was killed mercilessly during the assault, which prompted Kasumi to seek vengeance by exacting revenge on each of those involved in the dojo's destruction. After a period of time, Kasumi began her journey seeking to avenge her grandfather and stopped by a village where she was found by an old school teacher named Gensuke. Gensuke was appalled at the brutal manner in which the ninja clan attacked the village and became curious about Kasumi. After being informed of Kasumi's mission from her grandfather, Gensuke decides to take her along with him on his travels to teach her ninja arts and spy skills in order to help her achieve one of her goals: finding the evil ninja who is responsible for the destruction of her village. During their travels both learn more about each other and start liking each other until they get married. The game starts out with Kasumi saying that she still hasn't found her enemy and wants to spread her ninja arts around the world. Later on, she states that she's married to Gensuke and is having a male child with him. The game was developed by the Chinese developer Shanghai Miracle Software Co., Ltd. The story was written by Cheng Jie from Hong Kong, who also developed this title.In order to promote the game, Shanghai Miracle released a series of 5 comic books called "Kasumi Rebirth: The Comic". The comics consist of 3 parts which contain a total of 23 chapters. The first part has 13 chapters and was released in 2001, the second part has 10 chapters and was released in 2002, and the third part has 11 chapters and was released in 2003. The first two parts were translated into English by The Hentai Collection, who later went bankrupt. The first part was released as an ebook on October 22, 2010 and contains all 13 chapters of the comic book. The second portion was eventually translated and released as an ebook on January 26, 2012."Kasumi Rebirth: The Comic" received mixed to positive reviews from critics.
